KXK Dynamics R.I.D STIX - Specialist Automotive Sanding Blocks
Behind KXK Dynamics you'll find Jason Killmer (Ridler and Pebble Beach award winner) Andy Ward of Proficient X and Eron Knox of Red's Detail Co. These guys are highly regarded, expert detailers, who focus on developing products to improve efficiency, profitability, comfort and results for the daily challenges faced by automotive detailing and body shop technicians.
R.I.D.STIX are specially designed sanding blocks to aid in the improvement or removal of random isolated deeper scratches that cannot be achieved from strictly compounding and polishing alone. When used in combination with sand paper, R.I.D.STIX ergonomic, patent-pending design, maximizes the contact between the sanding block and a vehicle panel to obtain a more consistent, even sanding mark that can be polished out quickly and easily!
What is a R.I.D? A R.I.D or RDS is a common abbreviation for a random deep scratch, this is when you have deeper scratches left behind after swirl removal that require deeper localised correction and removal.
Beveled vs Flat Side: The bevels on the top side of the block allow the technician to sand more easily and closer to a panel edge without digging into the panel edge or going over the panel edge. The flat side of the block allows the technician to sand a RID that is in a more open, flat area of a panel.
Technique tip: It is always best to sand in a 45 degree motion over the RID rather than to sand in a parallel motion (same direction) as the RID.
Usage instructions: When using the R.I.D.STIX to wet sand, wrap a piece of your favorite sand paper around the block, lightly spritz water on both the surface to be sanded and the wrapped piece of sand paper, and then begin sanding. Depending on how long a technician is sanding the effected area, it is recommended to lightly spritz water on the surface being sanded every 4 - 7 passes to keep the surface lubricated and the paper from getting clogged with clear coat residue.
